Vacation....to exercise or not to exercise?

The question:  Should you work out on your vacation?  Well, the answer will be dependent on what your goals are and how much you've been working out leading up to the big day.

Working out SUPER HARD the week before you leave is a great strategy.  Then you can use your vacation as a recovery week, throwing in 1 or 2 walk/jog sessions.

If you have a goal in the near future that you are trying to achieve, then yes, you need to fit in exercise during your vacation. It doesn't mean you need to spend an hour a day during vacation.  Just a 30 minute, fast and furious routine can do the trick.  Here's a great workout to rev up your heart rate and get those calorie burning juices flowing.  Purchase a red or blue exercise tube from a local sporting good store (the kind with handles).  These are easy to throw in a suitcase and will be all you need to stay fit on the road.

Throw your exercise tube around your neck or tie it around your waist and
Jog for 3 minutes
Go into a Walking Lunge for the length of one block
Pushups off a car or curb X 20 reps
Sprint 1 block, jog 1 block.  Repeat 5 times.
Wrap your tube around a lamp post and do Standing Rows X 20.
Turn your back to the lamp post and do Chest Presses X 20.
Step Up and Down off the curb 20 X per leg.
Turn around to head back to your starting point.
Alternate Running Forward and Backward every other block X 6 blocks.
Jump Squat X 20
Upright Row w/ your tube
Jog back to hotel/beginning
Biceps Curl w/ tube
Triceps Dips off curb
50 Jumping Jacks

You can either Repeat for an hour workout, or cool down and stretch.

10 Year Wedding Anniversary
Yesterday was my 10 year wedding anniversary.  Kris and I went to dinner and a movie.  No big vacation, you ask?  Well, my wonderful hubby has told me for years that he would buy me a new wedding ring at our 10 year, and that's just what he did.  10 diamonds for 10 years!  What a man!

But jewelry has never really been important to me.  I LOVE my new ring (can't wait to get it actually, because it's being sized), but finding a good man was always most important.  And that's just what I did.  I've been so blessed to have a man who loves the Lord and follows him.  We have both had moments and seasons through our ten years that we haven't been perfect....for sure!  But the forgiveness we give each other and understanding we share is awesome.  He is a good listener, supporter, my biggest cheerleader in life, and my friend.  It's so wonderful to have a life partner that I know will be here forever for me.  Not to mention he is a wonderful daddy to our beautiful three kiddos.

I love you Kris!  I thank God for you daily!  Looking forward to the next 10 years and beyond!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!  Hope to see many of you tomorrow for a workout!

Punch-You-in-the-Face-Friends?

I don't need a friend who changes when I change and who nods when I nod; my shadow does that much better.

Do you have a Punch-You-In-The-Face friend? This is a friend who doesn't need your permission to come up to you and let you know you're making an unwise choice. They're not gonna let you do something stupid! We all have moments in our lives where we are making unwise choices. Having a rational conversation during these times is not something we are capable of because we are being irrational. When in this place we are full of rationalizations for our behavior. It's nice to know you have a friend that is looking out for you that will let you know and "punch-you-in-the-face" if necessary! Haha, well let's hope it wouldn't come to that. If you can't think of someone in your life you've been transparent with to this point, begin looking for someone.
In the realm of health and fitness, think of Jillian Micheals. How great would it be to have a "Jillian" friend that could just tell you to stop eating junk and get back to boot camp.

We as your trainers can only do this to a certain extent. We can't pull out our "Jillian" attitude or you wouldn't come back to boot camp. Or at least most of you wouldn't. Remember, on the Biggest Loser the contestants can't leave! At Adventure Boot Camp we do not have a "break them down so you can build them up" philosophy. We are here to encourage you in your health and fitness and guide you to make better choices for yourself.
This is where creating a circle of influence in your life, of others who value the things you value, is very important and can be of great benefit to your long-term health habits.

Have a fit & fabulous day.  Get a sweat on!
